Entrust Giving Circles
Women Supporting Women
Entrust Giving Circles provide a framework for a community of women in Australia to collectively support women around the world, as they lead their families and communities out of poverty.
Women and girls bear the brunt of poverty and are more severely affected by crises like wars, natural disasters, pandemics, climate change and other emergencies.
But when a woman has the tools and opportunity to lift herself out of poverty, she brings her family and her community with her. Supporting women has a powerful multiplying effect. For every woman raised out of poverty, she brings 4 other people with her.
This is why Entrust Foundation works with local communities, and women in particular, to partner in providing opportunities to lift themselves, their families and communities out of poverty. Creating long term, sustainable change by investing in women’s economic empowerment leads to greater equality, higher levels of education, increased age of marriage, lower vulnerability to violence and inclusive economic growth.
Collective giving amplifies impact. But how does it work?
1 Choose your Circle
The generosity of one woman can change the life of another. The generosity of a group of women can transform a community, and with enough of us – change the world.
Come together as a circle of women, pool resources and passions to support women trapped in poverty. Gather 5-10 friends – your mother’s group, work colleagues, book club, your old school friends, girls from the golf or tennis club, a group from church. A circle of women with capacity, shared values and a heart to make a difference – together.
Your circle can consist of a minimum of five and maximum 10 women. Arrange a gathering, give your Circle a name and discuss which Cause or Country you’d like to support, along with your level of Commitment.
An Entrust team member will join your Circle gathering to talk you through the needs and opportunities that exist, the issues faced by women in hard places, and how your circle can have a real impact. Then you decide on the next steps.
Doing good together strengthens friendships, builds connection and increases impact. Making a difference for women living in really hard places not only makes us feel good, it also builds solidarity among women across the globe.
2 Choose your Cause or Country
Perhaps you have a passion, background or experience in a particular social issue or cause. Maybe human trafficking riles you, or you believe deeply in the foundational need for every child to get an education. Perhaps clean water and health are issues close to your heart, or maybe your experience in business means you understand the need for people to have the skills to generate an income? It might be that someone in the group has a connection with a particular country where Entrust works, so a country rather than a cause may dictate which project you connect into.
Your Entrust contact can guide your group through the current needs and causes including:
- Combatting Human Trafficking
- Education
- Economic Empowerment
- Water and Sanitation
You may prefer to concentrate your effort in a country where Entrust works:
- India
- Bangladesh
- Cambodia
- Laos
- Thailand
- Uganda
- Indonesia
Individually and together, consider and decide on your level of commitment over a 3-year period.
Proving a 3-year commitment of support gives a project security of funding over time. Poverty alleviation and impact takes time as there is rarely a quick fix. So Entrust journeys with it’s partners and communities over the long term. Investing over a 3-year period (or longer) means both the beneficiary community, and your Giving Circle can journey together and realise the impact of your partnership.
You may decide each person in your circle will contribute the same amount, or some may feel in a position to contribute more than others.
Here are some sample group commitments, to get you thinking….
