The people of DRC need our help.
The current situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is catastrophic. Over the past three weeks, rebel forces have intensified their attacks, and the cities of Goma and Bukavu have become war zones. Nearly 3,000 lives have been lost and more than 1.5 million people displaced in this unimaginable humanitarian crisis.
Our partners in Goma tell us “airports are closed, large scale relief is yet to arrive, banks and schools are closed and people have fled their homes seeking shelter from the fighting. 3,000 people have died in the fighting to seize control of Goma and although most of the bodies have been recovered from the streets, hundreds have yet to be buried. Many more were injured, and the hospitals are overwhelmed. In the days that followed, food prices tripled, looting was common, and government and NGO vehicles were stolen. Fear reigns and people already suffering don’t know what’s coming next.”
We are privileged to work with four local partners in Goma and Bukavu in eastern DRC, the most conflict-ridden parts of the country. They are working tirelessly to support the vulnerable people and families in their communities and beyond. However, more funds are needed to continue this vital work. Supporting the projects our partners are running is an impactful way to provide relief and enable growth in communities where there is such desperate need.
The ‘Building Peaceful Communities’ project in Goma speaks directly to the ongoing conflict as this partner seeks to build capacity for conflict resolution and peace. Other projects we support in Goma and Bukavu are training local doctors and nurses and upskilling and equipping vulnerable people – all essential areas in supporting the local community and building a stronger DRC.
Will you join us in supporting the people of DRC in this very tangible way? All funds donated will be transferred to these projects so our trusted partners can continue to enable hope amidst the devastation.
If you would like to give financially to support DRC, you can:
- Give an undesignated contribution to DRC here and we will direct it where most needed, or
