Overview
This project targets rural communities in Cambodia lacking access to clean drinking water, where poor water quality and hygiene contribute to significant health issues, including high infant mortality due to diarrheal diseases. These conditions also lead to low productivity, with high absenteeism among workers and students. By addressing water and sanitation problems, the project empowers disadvantaged people to improve health, education, and economic outcomes. Partnering with local communities, the project involves the building of wells, toilets, and wash stations and the provision of hygiene training and water filters.
Why support this
The four target provinces have a widespread challenge around the lack of safe clean drinking water. This issue is at the core of connected community issues, including health, productivity, financial freedom and education. This program addresses the primary and secondary issues at a number of levels. Firstly, our partner collaborates with the local community to provide water solutions and education on sanitation and hygiene, as well as effective water management. Secondly, local people are empowered to continue to manage the project and all of its elements effectively well in the future. Thirdly, education will enable the next generation to create a lasting solution to water and sanitation in the future and transform their communities permanently.
