On average there are 87 reported rapes in Thailand each day - one every 15 minutes, with most ending in death. This statistic does not include incidents of abuse or sexual assault, or the many unreported cases that are kept silent. Women and children in Thailand, especially along the Thai/Burma border, are very vulnerable to human rights abuses. Mechelle is doing something to change this.
Why support this
The Global Alms team has established a self-sustaining Training Centre in Mae Sot township that offers courses and workshops in topics such as Reality-Based Self Defence, Vocational Skills, Leadership, Human Rights, Abuse & Trafficking Awareness and training in best-care practice for working with children at risk.
Budget
$10,000 for 2018 (for example 10 people for $1,000 each). Your support will fund Mechelle to run the programs in training, education and vocational skills – to equip people with essential skills to stay safe.
Objectives Include
- There are many non-government organisations working in the Tak region, none of whom provide training on best care practice for children at risk and protection programs.
- Women and children are being trafficked and forced to work in hazardous conditions in many industries, including the vicious sex trade.
- The ‘Yes She Matters’ project focuses on helping women stay safe and protect their rights.
- Mechelle trains men, women and children in self-defence through Global Alms’ Protection programs.
