Mondulkiri province, located in Cambodia’s north-eastern highlands, is home to many indigenous communities, particularly the Bunong people. These communities face deep poverty, high levels of violence, low school engagement, and rising rates of adolescent pregnancy. Our partner is committed to equipping the most vulnerable households to drive positive change from within. This project aims to strengthen the economic stability of at-risk Bunong families and build community knowledge and capacity to better protect women, children, and young people.
Why support this
This program goes beyond simply enrolling children in school. It focuses on those often overlooked by society, helping them thrive, discover their purpose, reach their potential, and grow as future leaders. Significant effort is devoted to identifying children from challenging circumstances - those living in slums, on the streets, or facing neglect or exploitation. These children are guided into education, nurtured to develop a love of learning, and inspired to envision a future beyond their wildest dreams.
Budget
$45,000 for year 3 of a 3yr project. Total budget $128,000
Objectives Include
- Sustainable cultivation of high value crops to improve household incomes
- Bunong women, youth and children feel safe and are protected from all forms of violence
Expected Life Change
- Vulnerable Bunong households experience increased and more stable incomes, allowing parents to better support their children’s education.
- Communities deepen their understanding of gender equality and the various forms of gender-based violence, and are equipped to work with schools and lead safeguarding initiatives that foster a safer environment for all.
