On Friday 28 March 2025, a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, compounding the suffering of a nation already grappling with civil unrest, poverty, and instability. Over 3,500 people lost their lives, thousands more were injured, and more than 3 million people were affected.
When the earthquake hit, Entrusts partners on the ground responded immediately. Roads were impassable, entire communities lay in rubble, and essential services had collapsed. Yet, amidst overwhelming destruction and grief, courageous teams stepped forward to deliver urgent aid to families who had lost everything.
Thanks to the generosity of Entrust donors, urgent action was possible. Together, we raised and quickly deployed $75,000 in emergency aid, bringing life-saving support to more than 2,000 people in crisis.
This rapid response enabled the distribution of critical supplies:
- Bags of rice and emergency food
- Clean drinking water to prevent dehydration and disease
- Mosquito nets and sleeping mats for protection and rest
- Solar power banks and cooking stoves, as electricity and fuel remain scarce
- Clothing and hygiene items for displaced families
- Microgreens powder to combat food insecurity
- 100 body bags, sewn by a women’s vocational program for dignified burials
Our partners also delivered trauma support, reached remote villages with emergency relief, and trained teams in psychological first aid, offering not just material assistance, but emotional care to people in deep distress.
Access for international aid quickly became limited, with visa approvals suspended and government infrastructure severely damaged. In this challenging environment, our local partners played a crucial role as first responders – offering not only resources, but insight and connection to those hardest to reach. Again and again, people expressed their deep gratitude – not only for the practical help, but for being seen and heard.
As the wet season approaches, the road to recovery will be long. But amid the devastation, hope endures, and stories of courage and compassion continue to emerge, made possible by the compassion and swift response of Entrust donors.
