This project provides children, youth, and adults in remote ethnic minority villages with access to both formal and non-formal education. Activities include supporting local handicrafts, improving and planting fruit and other tree crops, training women in non-formal education, family financial management, and daily-life skills, as well as on-the-job teacher training. The project also raises awareness of women’s and children’s rights, human trafficking, drug abuse, and the rights of people with disabilities, while building the capacity of Village Education Development Committees.
Why support this
Ethnic minority communities in northern Laos continue to face low levels of education, poor health and nutrition, and limited income, alongside high rates of poverty and vulnerability. Our partners work with these remote communities and local government to address barriers to development and create opportunities, particularly in education, health, environment, and livelihoods. Community ownership of the development process strengthens educational outcomes, literacy, and practical life skills, with strong participation and leadership from local residents.
