Overview

Our partner is dedicated to supporting women and girls highly vulnerable to human trafficking amid Myanmar’s ongoing economic and political crises. With 48% of households living in poverty and over 19.9 million people in need of humanitarian aid, conflict, displacement, and economic instability have left many communities destabilised, particularly in border and conflict-affected areas. The 2024 conscription law has triggered a mass exodus of men and boys, leaving many women without familial or community protection. In cities like Yangon, Lashio, and Tachileik, the collapse of social safety nets, lack of education, and limited job opportunities have created a perfect storm of vulnerability, exposing women to heightened risks of trafficking for sexual and labor exploitation. In this project, 150 women will be supported with stipends while participating in life-changing vocational skill training.

Why support this

Our partner has an excellent model and track record of providing trafficking survivors with comprehensive care through drop-in centres offering trauma counseling, vocational training, and daily stipends to meet basic needs. A three-month vocational program equips women with skills in a safe environment, reducing their risk of re-trafficking. Graduates transition into employment opportunities, empowering them to secure sustainable, non-exploitative work.

Budget

$85,500 for year 1 of a 3 yr project. Total budget $256,500.
