Project Timeline

Overview

Our partners deliver community development projects in both urban and rural Uganda, aimed at providing poor and disadvantaged youth with increased access to education, sustainable income-generating skill training and business start-ups through two key areas: Urban:  focusing on equipping youth in the capital city of Kampala with specialized vocational training skills in the highly sought-after industries of tailoring, fashion and design and music artistry and audio production. The tailoring project also teaches students to make reusable menstrual hygiene products to help ensure that young women do not drop out of school because they cannot afford to effectively and hygienically manage their menstrual period. Rural: supporting youth with capital to commence a successful income-generating business through farming of livestock, in particular goat farming.

Why support this

This project is with a new grassroots partner. We appreciate their hearts for the many disadvantaged youth and for the great progress they have made to date over the past five years. Our partners are also involved in the music industry in east Africa and have used their personal funds and growing performance profile to support the poor and marginalised. We like the way they support young people in all aspects through an encouraging and supportive environment.

Objectives Include

  • Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world, with 75% of the population under the age of 30 years!
  • As a result of high dropout rates due to the high costs of education, coupled with the lack of employment opportunities, the majority of youth in Uganda are unable to successfully provide for the needs of themselves and their families.
  • Finding ways to empower and equip the youth with sustainable income generating skills to promote independence and financial security, will ensure they are able to meet their needs and those of their families, and also increase the productivity of the country as a whole.

Expected Life Change

  • Youth will be able to commence their own businesses in order to increase financial independence
  • Youth will learn income-generating skills that ensure they are able to sustainably provide for themselves and their families.
  • Young women will be empowered and equipped with the resources they need to stay in school and finish their education
