Overview
Bangladesh, with a population of 163 million, faces significant poverty, especially in rural regions where nearly a quarter of the population lives below the national poverty line. Frequent floods in these areas cause severe damage to homes, crops, and infrastructure, and increase the risk of disease. This project seeks to support and strengthen rural communities by advancing literacy through practical education, establishing self-sustaining groups, promoting economic growth, and encouraging shifts in behavior for long-term improvement.
Why support this
This project is designed to help impoverished and marginalised families escape poverty in a sustainable way, with a particular emphasis on supporting women who are landless and lack literacy, as well as their children and families. The initiative will be centered around self-help groups, which will provide a foundation for various programs such as literacy training, basic arithmetic skills, savings plans for income generation, and education on key social and environmental topics. Our partner’s approach has consistently demonstrated success, empowering individuals to move beyond exploitation and dependence.
